Karlovy Vary - The solution to the emergency state of the Karlovy Vary Secondary School of Art and Design will be delayed. No one has applied for the competition to process a detailed assessment and propose a solution. The heritage-protected building had to be closed last year due to faulty concrete in the structure, and the school is operating in a temporary setting, said Jaroslav Bradáč (independent), the regional councilor for education, to reporters today.
"As of yesterday (Monday, March 19), we had not received a single application for the preparation of project documentation. Therefore, a working team will meet today to discuss how we will proceed," Bradáč stated.
According to him, the contract may be risky for interested parties because, in addition to conducting the survey, it must also propose a solution for the state of the school - essentially deciding whether the building will be repaired or demolished. "The contract was assigned as a whole, including the survey, static recalculation, and proposal of a solution," said Bradáč. One potential solution to attract interested parties for the project preparation would, according to him, be to allow those activities to be processed separately.
The region wanted to pay up to two million crowns for the project. However, the reconstruction of the building from 1920 or the construction of a new one could cost hundreds of millions. The assessments that the region already has available warn that the repair of the statically compromised ceilings will be complicated.
The region is also still waiting for a statement from the Ministry of Culture. It requested the removal of the heritage protection of the building so that in the case of very poor condition of the school, it could proceed with its demolition.
