Pardubice - Although the Pardubice City Hall and Pardubice Region have already promised to acquire the former Mototechna site on Na Spravedlnosti Street for the construction of the regional court in Pardubice, it is by no means certain that construction will actually begin, or that it will take place at this location. City and regional representatives voted to acquire the land, covering about 11,500 square meters, for a market price of 36.5 million crowns from a private company, provided that the state later buys it for the appraised value. According to Milan Špryňar, who is in charge of managing the Pardubice branch of the regional court, the Ministry of Justice would still have to issue a public tender for the land.

"We cannot commit to buying any specific piece of land, let alone for a specific amount. We would need to issue a tender with defined criteria, such as area and transport accessibility. The city and the region can apply for it, just as anyone else can," Špryňar told ČTK.
Pardubice are willing to invest 36.5 million crowns together with the region for the purchase of the land, and the state would later pay them 15 to 20 million crowns for the Mototechna site, according to their estimates. "The only advantage would be that the city and the region would sell the land not at market price, but at a lower price according to the expert assessment, which could be significant in the tender," Špryňar stated.
The state allocated approximately 320 million crowns for the construction of the court in Pardubice years ago. If the money cannot be used soon, it is possible, according to Špryňar, that it will be utilized elsewhere and the branch will continue to operate in rented premises. For this reason, the most serious criminal cases are still not tried in Pardubice, but in Hradec Králové. According to the original plan, there was to be a whole judicial complex in the city, which would house not only the regional court but also the regional and district public prosecutor's offices.
For the construction of the regional court, the city and the region have also considered other locations. Recently, a section of the former heating plant, owned by the British company International Power, which owns the Opatovice power plant, seemed to be the most feasible. However, the city commission for urbanism and architecture deemed it inappropriate and unworthy for a court.
