Prague - A total of 18 candidates applied for the position of director of the National Technical Museum in the Ministry of Culture (MK) selection process. Among them are people directly from the technical museum, such as the Deputy Director for Collection Activities Jan Novotný, curator Jitka Zamrzlová, and director of the Railway Museum Jiří Střecha. The list of applicants is available to ČTK.
Candidates also included the Deputy Director of the National Museum (NM) Karel Ksandr, former Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at VUT in Brno Vladimír Šlapeta, Martin Lang from the Strašice Museum in the Middle Brdy, and Antonín Kostlán from the Institute for Contemporary History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (AV ČR).
The minister Jiří Besser (TOP 09) dismissed the director of the technical museum Horymír Kubíček on August 19 due to inconsistencies in financial management. The management of the museum was then taken over by the statutory representative of the director Oldřich Rambousek, who resigned just a few days later. The newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes reported at that time that Rambousek, like Kubíček, likely benefited from the museum's budget.
Besser sent auditors to the technical museum, and their initial findings are reportedly alarming. However, the ministry does not want to officially comment on the audit results yet. "The audit protocol is not final yet," said the minister's secretary Stanislav Brunclík to ČTK. According to Mladá fronta Dnes, the audit found, among other things, that Kubíček secured a luxury state apartment at the museum with an indefinite contract.
The ministry announced a selection process for a new head of the NTM at the end of August. Potential candidates were given only two weeks to consider. Applications were to be submitted by September 15. "Given the long-lasting dire situation at the National Technical Museum, the new leadership of the Ministry of Culture wants to fill the director position as soon as possible," Brunclík stated at that time.
