Nymburk - The leadership of Nymburk is preparing to renovate the protected historical Kostelní náměstí in the historic center of the city. The project has been submitted to the Young Architect Award 2013 competition. The theme of the fifth year of the competition is the sore spots of city centers and outskirts. The developed study is to serve as the basis for discussions about the future form of the square. The councilors are also considering making the tower of St. Giles' Church accessible, said today the spokesperson of the Nymburk town hall, Markéta Tomčíková.

The international competition, under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Architects, aims to involve students and young architects under 33 in the creation of quality public spaces. Nymburk hopes that their revitalization proposals will provide an original perspective on its historic center through the eyes of the younger generation.
According to Deputy Mayor Pavel Fojtík, Kostelní náměstí fits perfectly into this year's competition theme. The scope of the revitalization should concern the entire square, the neglected state of the pavements, and the adjacent neglected park. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2013, but it is unclear when the city will have the funds for the actual project. The town hall is currently looking for applicable funds.
Attraction for visitors and residents of the city could potentially become the lookout from the tower of the Gothic St. Giles' Church, which surrounds the square. The city is negotiating with the archbishopric's lawyers regarding the accessibility of the 45-meter high tower and is addressing the rental arrangement. The councilors do not currently plan to discuss the intention, stated Tomčíková.
