Nymburk – Nymburk has selected a company that will renovate the Old Deanery and the medieval tower Kaplanka, which are adjacent to the town walls. The complex is to include exhibition spaces, an information center, and a café. The total investment amounts to 53.2 million crowns excluding VAT. The first of three phases, which the city wants to start this year, will cost 20 million crowns. The work will be carried out by the company Archatt, city representative Petr Černohous informed ČTK today.
"Given the current condition, we want to start the first phase of the revitalization this year. This primarily concerns securing the building itself and its structure. In the facility, we plan to have a café, an information center, multifunctional spaces, a ceremonial hall, and exhibition spaces," stated Deputy Mayor Stanislava Tichá (Nymburk s klidem). The first part of the restoration will also include the replacement of windows and doors, the repair of the chimney, and the staircase. The building will receive a new roof along with the structure.
The wall tower Kaplanka is one of the bastions of the Nymburk fortifications, built between 1288 and 1305 along with them. After the Thirty Years' War, it was repaired and completed, becoming the only residential tower, also serving as a granary for the parish. A building that is now the Old Deanery was likely added to it in 1657. The city purchased the property from the church in 2006 and had the roof renovated in 2010.
