Nymburk is preparing repairs for the cemetery and the monument-protected crematorium

Nymburk - Nymburk is preparing a large-scale renovation of the municipal cemetery and the protected crematorium. The city council approved the development of an architectural study for the renovation in April, costing nearly 387,000 crowns, and it should be completed by August. This will be followed by the selection of a designer. Next year, the city plans to apply for a grant for repairs from European funds, said Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Vocásek to ČTK.

According to the deputy mayor, the crematorium is in poor condition and requires a complete renovation. "And this is not only in terms of technology, but mainly in operational aspects, concerning the organization of the ceremonies themselves," Vocásek stated. Modifications will include spaces for the bereaved and officiants.

In addition to the crematorium, the renovation will also cover other areas, such as the cemetery administration building and fencing, and there will be a new columbarium and scattering meadow. "Given the anticipated financial demands, the entire project will be divided into several stages," Vocásek added.

The costs of the investment will be determined by the project documentation. "The crematorium is a national cultural monument, and we are just at the beginning of the preparations, so nothing can be estimated at this time," Vocásek further stated. The city hall has also commissioned a historical architectural survey of the crematorium building, and the architect will consult on the study with heritage conservationists.

The crematorium building in the Nymburk district of Drahelice, built in 1924, was designed by architects Bedřich Feuerstein and Bohumil Sláma. It is one of the first purist buildings in the Czech Republic and was declared a national cultural monument in 2017.
