A monument to Karel Kutlvašr – one of the greatest heroes of modern Czech history, a legionnaire, the commander of the Prague Uprising in 1945, and later also a political prisoner – will be erected in the area of the former Nuselský Brewery. The monument, designed by Ondřej Tichý, will take the form of a flag. The design of the monument emerged from an open artistic competition commissioned by Penta Real Estate, which is building a new residential quarter in Nusle. The new monument will be completed and unveiled in the spring of next year, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Prague Uprising.

The location of the monument in the former Nuselský Brewery is not accidental. General Kutlvašr worked here as a night watchman towards the end of his life, after being persecuted by the communist regime. A new quarter is now being developed in the area, featuring modern buildings in the northern part and also historically protected brewery structures, which will now be repurposed. There will be apartments, shops, restaurants, and services. The monument will be located in the central square between the old and new buildings.
