Vlašim - Břehy Blanice will be connected by a new bridge on Palackého Square in Vlašim. Construction began last autumn and it is expected to open in May or June, said Mayor Luděk Jeništa to ČTK. "We waited quite a long time for the reconstruction, but eventually we managed to secure a grant for it," he added. The costs exceeded 18 million crowns, of which about half was covered by a state grant and the rest was paid by the city. The new bridge was built on the site of the old one, which had to be removed due to its deteriorating condition. However, it was necessary to restore it because currently, there is only one bridge across the Blanice in Vlašim. Detours often lead over it when the nearby D1 highway is closed. Even a minor accident on the bridge could cause traffic in the city to collapse. The road with the old bridge on Palackého Square became the property of the city a few years ago, after the completion of a new bypass. However, at that time, engineers recommended closing the bridge.
