Brno - The famous Brno Zeman's café is set for renovation of both the interior and exterior in the coming months. The new owner of the building, which is a replica of the functionalist Brno structure designed by architect Bohuslav Fuchs, has come up with plans for its renovation. Zeman's café is expected to reopen to the public as a restaurant next spring. Additionally, exhibitions will be held there, the new owner, Brno entrepreneur Igor Fait, informed reporters.

"Time has taken its toll on the building, we want to restore its pre-war shine," Fait stated. He purchased the company 1926 Zemanova kavárna s.r.o. in October, which operates the café. According to Fait, the building will undergo repairs this winter. The pavings on the terraces and sidewalks as well as the roof covering and gutters will be reconstructed, and the building will receive a new facade paint. The lighting and floors in the building will also be repaired. However, the renovations of the exteriors must be consulted with heritage conservationists.
At the same time, the new owner wants to resolve a court dispute with the city. The company 1926 Zemanova kavárna owes the city for the lease of land.
Fait is the chairman of the board of the company Jet Investment, which operates in real estate and manufacturing, among other areas. Fait also runs a luxury restaurant in Brno called U Kastelána, which, according to unofficial information, is set to move to the renovated Zeman's café.
The original Zeman's café was built in 1926. Bohuslav Fuchs designed it on commission from café owner Josef Zeman to replace the wooden pavilion Café Schopp Pavillon. The café was nationalized in the 1950s and then served various purposes. In 1964, it had to make way for the construction of Janáček Theatre. Its replica, built in 1995, stands a little further away than the original building.
