The new employees of Prague 11 were designed by architects from the KAAMA studio

Prague – The new town hall building in Prague 11 could be glass-facaded and its ground plan reminiscent of an open book. The structure, which is planned near the Háje metro station, was designed by the architectural studio KAAMA. In a study from 2020, architects estimated the construction of the new town hall to cost 482.2 million crowns excluding VAT. This information comes from documents provided to ČTK by the spokesperson for the eleventh district, Anna Kočicová.

"The town hall of our district has long been operating in inadequate spaces, whether in terms of their quality or size. The fragmentation of town hall services across several locations logically affects the comfort of the residents of Prague 11, who have to handle their affairs at different addresses. The limited capacity of spaces designated for the meetings of commissions, committees, or the district council also does not currently allow for adequate public participation,” stated Martin Sedeke (ODS), the deputy mayor of Prague 11, explaining the reasons for building a new town hall.

The new town hall is proposed on a plot of land between Opatovská, Bajkonurská, and Tatarkova streets. According to the architectural study, the building is to have six floors. The two underground floors are planned to house archives, the technical facilities of the building, and garages with 190 parking spaces. In the four above-ground floors, in addition to offices and counters, there are plans for an entrance hall, a reception with an information center for the district, a bistro, and a hall for up to 220 spectators. The partially glassed building is designed to have a walkable roof, which will be green.

The office of the eleventh district currently operates in four locations. It is located in buildings on Ocelíkova, Roztylská, Vidimova, and Jurkovičova streets. According to the deputy mayor, Prague 11 currently lacks funds to build a new building that would provide space for all departments of the office. Funding possibilities are currently being explored, he added. In 2020, it was estimated that the town hall could cost around 482.2 million crowns. However, this year, the prices of building materials and construction work have significantly increased.

The eleventh district is also missing around 100 million crowns for planned modifications of the former Sandra hostel, as previously mentioned by deputy mayor Ondřej Prokop (ANO). The building near the Opatov metro station is currently being renovated to create 174 new apartments, office spaces, a hall for cultural events or district council meetings, and a restaurant. In the future, Jižní Město is also expected to undergo renovation and extension of the Senior Home (DPS) and the Relief Center Jižní Město with an estimated cost of 117 million crowns, as well as a pedestrian bridge over the four-lane road on Opatovská street. The new bridge is intended to connect the terrace at the Opatovská shopping center and the Opatov Cultural House with the local polyclinic.

In Jižní Město, the coalition of Pirates, ANO, ODS, TOP 09, and STAN is in power. The district, which is home to 77,600 residents, includes the cadastral areas of Chodov and Háje.
