Zlín - The investment costs for the new regional hospital in Zlín-Malenovice are estimated at 7.954 billion CZK including VAT. This is according to the investment plan that is being finalized. The construction itself and the establishment of engineering networks is expected to cost five billion CZK. Martin Šamaj from the preparatory committee of the New Regional Baťa Hospital told journalists today. Regional councilors are expected to approve the hospital's construction at a special council meeting at the end of March. The new hospital was also one of the topics of today's joint meeting of the regional and city councilors of Zlín.
Initially, the costs for the new hospital were mentioned as 7.4 billion CZK. According to Šamaj, the increase was caused by the planned complete relocation of the existing Zlín hospital, not just the acute medicine as was originally considered. The relocation now also includes the transfer of the long-term care facility and rehabilitation.
The purchase of medical equipment for the new hospital is expected to cost 810 million CZK, with equipment worth over 400 million CZK being moved from the existing premises. Following the approval of the hospital's construction, according to Šamaj, no new large technologies would be bought for the existing premises to simplify the relocation. Medical technology and hardware worth about 120 million CZK will be covered by the hospital.
According to Šamaj, discussions will still be held with network administrators, for example about connecting to the water supply network; for instance, options for public transport lines that should serve the hospital have already been considered.
The new hospital could be completed in six years according to Governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL), while a gradual reconstruction of the current hospital premises would cost nearly ten billion and take 12 years.
Today, the leadership of Zlín and the region discussed, for example, the sale or exchange of land owned by the city in the area of the proposed hospital. If the region bought the land from the city for the same price it paid to private owners of other local properties, it would pay 27 million CZK. Conversely, the city might be interested in land in the existing hospital premises, which is owned by the regional hospital as a joint-stock company. "We did not discuss what form of settlement will be, we only declared that we will certainly not be 'throwing sticks in the wheels'. This plan, once approved by the regional council, will be supported," said Zlín Mayor Jiří Korec (ANO).
Due to the further use of the existing premises, a group will be formed comprising representatives from both the city and the region, including heritage conservationists and architects. In the future, social services, outpatient clinics, facilities for the elderly, and apartments could operate in the area. It will also be considered whether the original Baťa architecture will be preserved on the site. The regional headquarters of the emergency medical service will remain at the edge of the premises.
