Havlíčkův Brod – The new building of the Vysočina regional library in Havlíčkův Brod could open in mid-January next year. Prior to that, it could serve at least as a pickup point due to measures against the epidemic. Its opening depends on how well the suppliers manage to fine-tune the information systems, said Jitka Hladíková, the director of the regional library, to ČTK today. The city is already looking for a new use for part of the Old Town Hall on Havlíčkovo náměstí, which the library has vacated.
The library was built by the Vysočina Region because there was not enough space for it in the Old Town Hall. The new building on Žižková Street cost the region 174 million crowns, and the two-year construction was completed this summer. The library has been closed to the public since October 19. It has already been completely relocated. "We would like to open in the week of January 11," said the director.
A new parking garage for 88 cars is already half-operational at the new library. The first two hours of parking are free.
The city is already considering new uses for the vacated halls of the Old Town Hall. "We have established a group that is dealing with this," said Deputy Mayor Zbyněk Stejskal (ODS). According to initial findings, a passage for temporary exhibitions and lecture halls could be created in the Old Town Hall, suitable for various purposes. An elevator for wheelchair users should also be added. "But everything will depend on the money," Stejskal stated. He noted that the city needs to invest elsewhere as well, for instance in the aging swimming stadium.
According to Deputy Mayor Libor Honzárek (TOP 09), the costs for the modifications of the Old Town Hall will exceed 20 million crowns based on initial estimates.
