Jihlava - The Vysočina Region will begin selecting a company for the construction of the regional library building in Havlíčkův Brod. The regional council today decided on the initiation of the procurement process for this public contract, with estimated costs around 210 million crowns. This was stated to journalists by the governor Jiří Běhounek (for ČSSD). The announcement of the commencement of the procedure will be published by February 20, and interested parties will have 35 days to submit their bids. Construction is expected to start this year.
The councilors discussed the conditions for issuing the contract today and appointed a committee that will evaluate the bids. The city of Havlíčkův Brod, which is involved in the project, will also have its representatives in it. It should pay for the parking house next to the new library. According to the governor, the costs for the region should be about 160 million crowns.
The regional library is currently located in the Old Town Hall on Havlíčkovo Square in Havlíčkův Brod. Due to a lack of space, it also operates in rented premises. For the new library, the region chose, in cooperation with the city, a vacant plot near the Ostrov cultural center.
"Havlíčkův Brod is ready," said the mayor of Havlíčkův Brod, Jan Tecl (ODS), to ČTK regarding the planned start of construction.
According to Havlíčkův Brod's deputy mayor Libor Honzárek (TOP 09), a minor complication arose at the turn of last year and this year due to concerns that the site chosen for the library could be contaminated with oil and diesel, since it used to be the area of ČSAD. Given that the Sázava River flows nearby, a survey was requested by the Vltava River Basin Authority. According to Honzárek, the results indicated that the contamination is not significant. "The ecological burden will definitely not delay the construction of the library," he believes.
The construction of a new library in Vysočina has been discussed for years. Preparations picked up speed two years ago when the region agreed to cooperate with Havlíčkův Brod and when the city's councilors approved financial support for the project. The documentation for the new library was ordered by the regional councilors from the Jihlava-based company Artprojekt in November 2016.
