Prague - The Supreme Audit Office wants to start auditing the money that the state has spent on equipping public universities and preserving cultural monuments this year. These auditing activities were included in the office's plan for this year's audits during its last meeting. The audits will last until August and September of next year. The office will then publish the results.
"The ongoing updates to the audit activity plan are a common procedure that the SAO uses to maximize the implementation of its audit strategy and to make the most of its audit capacity," said the office's spokesperson Jaroslav Broža to ČTK.
In the case of money for universities, it will involve funds designated for the development and renewal of their material and technical base. According to the spokesperson, this mainly refers to asset reproduction, namely the construction of new buildings, the renovation of existing ones, and, for example, the purchase of IT equipment.
For instance, Charles University in Prague received 350 million crowns under the relevant program to purchase Hotel CDMS Krystal, which is the Center for Doctoral and Managerial Studies. The state allocated over 340 million crowns for the renovation of buildings on Kateřinská Street.
Under another program, the University of South Bohemia was to receive a total of 607 million crowns, for example, for the university library pavilions. The state decided to grant almost 1.4 billion crowns to the University of Pardubice. Of this, about one billion is designated for the construction of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. The Technical University of Ostrava will receive an additional 1.5 billion crowns. It can invest 544 million crowns in the construction of an auditorium and a computer center.
