The tallest building in Blansko will be even higher, it will have apartments in it

Blansko – The neglected tallest building in Blansko on Wanklovo náměstí is set to transform into a multifunctional object. The eleven-story building in the city center will be raised by two floors, and it will contain around 70 apartments and commercial spaces. This was stated today by the city hall spokesperson Pavla Komárková in a press release. The building previously housed mainly offices and has been empty for the last 12 years.

The building was formerly owned by the city, and in 2008, the councilors approved its sale. However, the subsequent reconstruction was complicated for many years by the buybacks of all related plots. This has now been resolved by the property's owner, LL Holding. This year, the company could obtain the necessary permits, and the reconstruction could begin in 2021. "I am very glad that we have finally reached this phase and that the high-rise building will start to be repaired. The current state of the so-called skyscraper, which has not changed for 12 years, troubles us and the public in Blansko," said the mayor of Blansko, Jiří Crha (ODS).

Initially, the object was to be largely used for commercial rentals and non-residential spaces, and it was also to include a gaming room. However, it will primarily serve as housing, and it will grow by nearly five meters. "We developed the current project based on a new assignment. The main change is that the number of apartments has increased at the expense of commercial spaces, based on the assignment from LL Holding's owner Pavla Liška; we have newly preserved the view from Wanklovo náměstí to Staré Blansko, and a balcony from the terraces has been added, which expands the usable areas of the apartments," stated architect Rostislav Jakubec from ATX Architekti, the company that created the project.

The building is designed to have 69 apartments across 12 floors, and it will also include non-residential spaces for rent. In the neighborhood, a four-story parking garage with spaces for 127 cars will be built. An additional 22 parking spots will be available near the roundabout.

"The ground floor of the building will consist of commercial spaces directly connected to Wanklovo náměstí and Smetanova Street. The extension serving as a parking area will also be connected to that road," added co-author of the project Štěpán Tomas.

In the coming years, Blansko is expected to gain hundreds of apartments, mainly in the Písečná housing estate, which is set to expand significantly. Mayor Crha stated last week that the city could see an increase of 800 to 1000 apartments in the next ten years.
