Brno - The Brno city hall has already selected the company that will repair the Tugendhat villa. The company offered the lowest price, about 140 million, but its name is not yet available for publication, said Deputy Mayor Miroslav Hošek to reporters during the celebrations of the anniversary of Lužánky Park. The council decided on Wednesday to release 170 million for the reconstruction of the UNESCO heritage site. However, this amount still needs to be approved by the council, along with the selected construction company.

The villa, which has belonged to the city since 1994, has been awaiting a general renovation for several years. Initially, the city estimated expenditures of about 112 million, but later the figure was discussed at 200 million.
According to Hošek, the project for the villa's reconstruction is already completed, and the selection of the company is the last thing standing in the way of the renovation. However, everything could change due to the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS), which must now review the city's contract for the design documentation for the repair. The Brno Regional Court decided on Wednesday that the magistrate made a mistake in the selection process for the project. According to the law, it should have excluded the winning consortium led by the company Omnia.
ÚOHS is now waiting for the court's written decision and has not yet provided more information. It is therefore unclear what the court's verdict means for the tender for the project and the actual reconstruction. However, Hošek believes it is unlikely that the antimonopoly office will cancel the tender.
Almost everything in the villa will be reconstructed, including the structurally compromised foundations. Conservationists want to restore the villa from the 1930s to its original historic form. They plan, for example, to produce fittings, sinks, and other parts of the furnishings according to the original plans and using original materials.
The Tugendhat villa, located in Brno's Černá Pole, was designed in 1928 by the world-renowned German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Experts say the building is unique in its spatial concept, choice of materials, and interior design. After the reconstruction, the building should resemble the Prague Müller Villa.
