Zlín - The Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín has opened an exhibition showcasing the work of Brno architect Bedřich Rozehnal (1902 to 1984). Rozehnal is considered the best Czech architect of healthcare facilities realized during the First Republic and in the post-war years.
Visitors to the Zlín exhibition can familiarize themselves with Rozehnal's projects on more than 40 panels, including his masterpiece - the Children's Clinical Hospital in Brno-Černá Pole. "The exhibition features planning documentation, photographs. Graphic sheets are also represented, as architect Rozehnal devoted himself very intensively to graphic creation in his free time," said Jindřich Chatrný, the exhibition's author from the Museum of the City of Brno, today to ČTK. Visitors will also see materials from the family album. "During his lifetime, he socialized with a number of prominent personalities both abroad and in the Czech Republic, not only from the ranks of architects but also from artists, sculptors, and actors," Chatrný added.
A number of documents and original materials for the exhibition come from the legacy donated to the Museum of the City of Brno by the architect's daughter, Eva Rozehnalová. Once again, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalog that details the architect's life and work.
Rozehnal specialized in hospital buildings from the mid-1930s. In this field, he became a pioneer in Czechoslovakia and changed the standard of hospital environments. He developed a whole series of regional and clinical hospitals in Moravia.
"Characteristically for his work was absolute precision, communication - he always did projects in cooperation with doctors and middle healthcare staff. (...) He realized that not only the medical aspect is important, but also the environmental aspect that influences treatment," said the exhibition author.
Bedřich Rozehnal's architectural activities had a wide scope, and the significance of his work was also evidenced by the great interest in it. In 1967, his first exhibition of a lifetime's work took place at the House of Lords of Kunštát in Brno. It had reprises in Liverpool and in the Fragner Gallery in Prague.
The exhibition in the graphic cabinet of the Zlín castle is open daily except Mondays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, every Thursday until 6:00 PM. On the first Sunday of the month, entry to the exhibition space is free. The exhibition will last until November 6.
