Prague - The reconstruction of the outdoor spaces has begun at the Exhibition Grounds in Prague 7. Gardening work and path repairs have already been initiated. A new type of furniture will also be selected, such as benches and trash cans. Jana Klapka Rechlíková informed ČTK today on behalf of the Bubenec Exhibition Grounds. The exhibition grounds are owned by the city, which is gradually renovating them. The burned wing of the Industrial Palace will also be completed, and the Křižík Pavilions are set to be repaired.
"The empty premises allow us to significantly revitalize the outdoor areas, completely repair paths in places where there is otherwise constant traffic, select furniture and lighting for the lower part of the area, and prepare new playgrounds and sports facilities," said Tomáš Hübl, chairman of the board of the Prague Exhibition Grounds.
Gardeners will plant 60 trees, and a new row of trees already stands along Bruselská Road. They will also revitalize the lawns, which is problematic in normal operation, according to Hübl. "Spring gardening work is in full swing due to the pleasant weather and will continue in the coming months," he stated.
The lower part of the exhibition grounds is being transformed into public areas for outdoor sports, and a bouldering wall has been operating in a special mode since April 14. A children's rope park and a fitness and workout zone are also gradually opening. The exhibition grounds are also awaiting new sand for the giant sandbox, and a parkour playground is nearing completion.
Repairs have been made to Bruselská Road, and a new walkway from Křižík Fountain has been paved. Two new connections to Stromovka have been created in the lower part of the area.
Last year, the Prague Exhibition Grounds invested more than 130 million crowns in the area’s modifications. New sports facilities were created in the lower section, and the area has been connected to Stromovka. Renovated restaurants have also opened, a gastronomy pavilion is being developed, and the first part of the repairs to Křižík Fountain has been completed. This year, plans include repairing the Křižík Pavilions, the Spiral Theater, and the construction of the Industrial Palace is set to begin. Builders are reconstructing the Bohemia restaurant, which is expected to be finished by the end of next year.
The exhibition grounds were built in 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee Land Exhibition. A significant flood in 2002 caused extensive damage to the area, and the left wing of the Industrial Palace burned down in 2008. The company Prague Exhibition Grounds was established in 2015 after the city terminated the lease agreement with the company Incheba.
