When a reconstruction of an interesting building is born, it is always important to find the right balance between history and contemporary requirements, especially when it comes to a building that will serve as a residence or for relaxation. If the genius loci of the building is to be preserved while simultaneously offering users a high standard of comfort that most of us already demand, it is necessary to address certain issues thoughtfully. The same was true for the reconstruction of the Hostačov farmhouse in the Highlands, whose history dates back to 1829.
The farm was purchased in 2021 by new owners to completely restore it and convert it into a multifunctional recreational area with six rooms or apartments and other necessary facilities, including a wine cellar and a small tavern. During the reconstruction, all external walls were preserved, with only the roof over the living area being raised due to the newly built apartments. The interior on the ground floor was adapted to the new intentions, meaning a large kitchen with tiled stoves was created here. An important step in the reconstruction was the choice of heating. Not only in terms of preserving the historical context but also regarding maximum comfort, underfloor heating from REHAU was chosen. It is evident that the rustic style of the interior fits perfectly, and underfloor heating is a suitable technology in this regard, as nothing disrupts the chosen design, and there are no radiators obstructing the space. Additionally, the comfort of radiant heat from the floor, which is more pleasant for people in every respect, adds to its appeal. The choice of this efficient and ecological heating method was not accidental, as the owners have good experiences with the technology in their private and other business capacities.

The Varionova system panel is complemented by Rautherm

The REHAU technology offers investors a number of installation and system alternatives, each suitable for slightly different environments or situations. In the case of the Hostačov farm, the technology chosen was the installation of heating pipes on the Varionova system panel. This is a so-called wet method, where the fixed pipes on the system panel are poured with a cement or anhydrite fill (depending on the circumstances). The source of thermal energy is the Viessmann Vitocel 200-S heat pump, specifically the air/water variant in a split configuration. The pump's output is 16 kW. Underfloor heating is distributed in several heating circuits throughout the farm, except for the rooms with the beer tap (small tavern). The parameters for heating purposes are entirely sufficient. The REHAU underfloor heating system is characterized as low-temperature since the water flowing through the pipes is heated to a relatively low temperature (25 to 30 °C), which naturally leads to savings compared to "classic" systems. The heating operation is controlled by "smart" thermostats, which contributes to the efficiency of the entire system. An advantage is also the fact that due to the radiant method of heat transfer to the person, it is possible to heat a room 1 or 2 °C lower than the usual 22 °C. However, the internal climate feels identical. In all its systems, REHAU uses its own RAUTHERM pipes, which are made from cross-linked polyethylene (PE-Xa), a material that is very resistant to wear and ensures perfect flow without losses. The connection of the pipes to the system manifold of the heating circuits using a push-on fitting is safe and reliable. These are attributes that are very important for the operation of both commercial and private properties.

The Hostačov farm is yet another of many new references where REHAU underfloor heating symbolizes comfort, convenience, a healthy environment, and economical operation. The increase in interest in these systems, both from home builders and commercial properties, only underscores this fact.
