Brno - The Town Hall, associations, and the public can propose architectural or artistic monuments from South Moravia that were renovated last year for awards until the end of January. The competition is organized for the fourth time by the South Moravian Region in an effort to assist in the restoration of historical buildings and valuable furnishings in the region. The winner will receive a reward of 150,000 crowns, said the region's spokesperson Jan Chmelíček today. He reminded that the winner will be chosen by the public through online voting, where photographs of the nominated monuments will be presented along with detailed descriptions. Voting will take place on the region's website in March. The competition is divided into three categories. The large structures include castles, palaces, churches, monasteries, parsonages, fortresses, and farmyards. However, smaller buildings such as chapels, bell towers, and wayside shrines can also be nominated. Some artworks will also be awarded. This category includes paintings, sculptures, or murals. For each of the monuments nominated for an award, there will also be a detailed description of the modifications made to it last year. A total of 300,000 crowns will be distributed between the main winner and winners of other categories. Regional representatives expect that the funds will be invested in further restoration of historical buildings. The winner of last year's competition was the historic Swiss Cottage near Adamov in the Blansko region. It was built in 1850. It is now used as an ecological center by the organization Brontosaurus. The building is unique due to its architecture. It was originally built as an ironworks spa. The Swiss Cottage received 2,241 votes. The money earned in the competition will be used for the restoration and adjustment of the local hay barn. This dilapidated building will eventually become an ecological classroom.
