Terezín / Jaroměř - At today's meeting of the government commission composed of three ministries - for local development, finance, and culture - a plan was presented for the rescue of the fortress towns of Terezín in the Litoměřice region and Josefov belonging to Jaroměř in the Náchod region. The document will be sent to the mayors of both towns and the governors of the Ústí nad Labem and Hradec Králové regions for comments. The first to be repaired should be four buildings in Terezín and two buildings in Josefov. Specific amounts were not discussed. This was reported to ČTK by Ústí nad Labem governor Jan Schiller (ANO).

"It wasn't entirely specific that it would be for the first investments. There is now a plan on the table for how the fortress towns of Terezín and Josefov should be conceptually rescued," said Schiller. He added that he cannot comment in detail on the document yet because he saw it for the first time today.

At the meeting, he reminded about the emergency condition of the Žižkov barracks in Terezín, where the roof has collapsed. "They are indeed at the top of the priorities, that should be the starting point, however, we were promised at the January meeting that we would address the condition of the roof, that did not happen today," Schiller noted.

The Ústí nad Labem region has already begun steps to select a designer for the roof repair. Schiller repeatedly emphasizes that the region will not allow the project documentation to be prepared unless it has a guaranteed source of financing. The project will cost the region 20 million crowns, but over time the condition of the building may worsen, and thus there is a risk that the project will not be utilized. Recently, the roof of the neighboring armory also collapsed, and this building is also among those that need repair as soon as possible.

The Minister for Local Development, Ivan Bartoš (Pirates), said on Tuesday in response to a query from ČTK that investments could amount to as much as ten billion crowns. "This cannot be released unilaterally by the state. Let's address the things that are the most urgent. And I believe in a national recovery plan, where there will really be billions for project preparation. There must come a clear concept, investment intent," Bartoš stated.

The meeting was also attended by Terezín Mayor René Tomášek (RESET), who expected information about financing. "We expected to find out some figures, but we learned none," he told ČTK after the meeting. He hopes that the repair costs will be discussed at the next meeting. When it will take place was not mentioned today. The plan for the preservation of monuments will still be discussed by the government.
