Brno - The Bridge Construction of the Year 2007 became the bridge over the Hačka Valley on road I/7 near Chomutov and the pedestrian footbridge in Brno over the Svratka River. Representatives of the projects received the award today at the international symposium Bridges 2009, which is part of the Brno construction fairs. The crucial factor for including a bridge structure in the competition is the year of completion of the construction or reconstruction and its minimum one year of problem-free operation.
The jury awarded a total of five projects - four new bridges and one reconstruction. The prize and diploma were also awarded for the suspended bridge on the D47 highway over the Odra River and Antošovické Lake, and the pedestrian footbridge known as "cat's eyes" due to its shape, which crosses the D8 highway near Chlumec in the Ústí nad Labem region.
The jury indicated the best reconstruction as the repair work on the bridge and the crown of the dam at the Labská - Špindlerův Mlýn dam.
"The aim of the competition is to evaluate unconventional aesthetically impressive and functional new bridge structures in the Czech Republic once a year," stated the organizers of the competition.
