Reflection on the options for the reconstruction of the Vyton Bridge in Prague, taking into account the analogy of the reconstruction of the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne.
Dear Minister, dear Mr. Kupka! I am following up on our last meeting, which unfortunately was only digital and not technically perfect, this time not on behalf of the initiative “Nebourat”, but as a private individual, architect, designer of bridge structures, and a person who cares about the appearance of our capital city. The current impetus for this letter is certainly the expression of the participants from the symposium Bridges, which is very difficult to oppose due to its professional competence. This letter again points to the irreconcilability of both camps, which it is the purpose of the attached reflection to reconcile, bringing forth several possible solution variants. Particularly worth considering is Variant C, whose recommendation for realization would, after insignificant adjustments, bring a modern derivative of a historical structure without harming either the panorama of Prague or the ongoing competitive dialogue. I have already outlined this option during our meeting, and my reference to the analogy of the reconstruction of the bridge Hohenzollern in Cologne is not new to you either. I maintain my opinion on the artistic and conservational unacceptability of the proposal awarded the first prize in the competitive dialogue, which, although technically certainly quite correct, introduces a foreign and banal new form into the panorama of Prague's bridges. In hope for the sensitive application of your influence on the final decision, I remain in perfect respect, Yours Mirko Baum
