CHRUDIM - The heritage protectors rejected the proposals for the modern redevelopment of Chrudim's square, which were selected by judges of the architectural competition last autumn. They did not approve the construction of a hotel and the conversion of the former cadastral office into a shopping center with apartments. Entrepreneur Milan Kušta, who wants to start building this year, will have to have the designs revised, writes today's Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in its supplement for the Pardubice region. Kušta is unaware of the heritage protectors' decision. "I am still waiting for their opinion. I have a meeting with them next week, where it should be discussed," said the entrepreneur. "The statement of the heritage institute on the construction intentions in Chrudim's square is already complete. In summary, the architectural proposals do not meet the conditions for construction in the heritage zone," said Václav Medek from the Pardubice office of the National Heritage Institute to MfD. The Department of Heritage Care of the Chrudim Building Authority is also expected to prepare its statement in the coming days. In practice, this does not mean that a hotel and shopping center will not eventually be built on the square. "If we find a common path, then construction will happen. However, it will be necessary to make several changes, and the proposals will probably need to be reworked," Medek added. Neither does the author of one of the winning proposals, Zdeněk Kozub, fear the interventions of the heritage protectors into the prepared architectural plans. "I don’t want to comment too much on the heritage protectors’ opinion because I have not seen it in written form. However, I do not think that any fundamental, drastic changes would be needed for our proposal, for example. I believe a common path can be found in this case as well," said Kozub.
