The international discussion platform and festival reSITE, in collaboration with the private college of architecture ARCHIP, are opening registration for an intensive, two-and-a-half-day international workshop on the design of a mobile pavilion for festival events. The workshop is aimed at architects, artists, engineers, and other interested parties who would like to create the form of the pavilion for the accompanying program of reSITE in the coming years.

The creators of the young reSITE festival, which seeks to exchange views and confront different approaches to urban development not only among urban planners and municipal politicians, aim to formulate ideas that are acceptable for other cities in the Central European region. The mobile festival pavilion is intended to be the venue for such discussions, a dialogue between political leaders, architects, representatives of communities, and commercial development, with the goal of attempting a transparent and effective approach to urban development in countries marked by unplanned urban planning in the post-communist era. Thanks to its mobility, the ideas of reSITE could also be brought beyond the borders of Prague and the Czech Republic.

“The pavilion should embody the core principles we adhere to: collaboration, transparency, sustainability, openness, innovation, and an international dimension,” says the festival's founder, American landscape architect Martin Barry, “It should also be a true ‘brand’ that helps identify our efforts in other Central European cities.” Since the festival itself is based on broad interdisciplinary collaboration, the final form of the pavilion should emerge as a result of an international multidisciplinary workshop. The workshop will be led by the renowned structural engineer and designer Cecil Balmond, former vice president of the well-known firm ARUP (now owner of Balmond Studio in London). Following last year’s very well-attended competition for the design of Prague's waterfronts (Skanska Bridging Prague), doors are now opening for additional teams and individuals this year who can significantly contribute to the chronicle of the reSITE festival. Expert instructors and opponents of participants' proposals from around the world will include top professionals from renowned firms. Participants include Steffan Rettich (Karo, Leipzig), Jonas Norsted (Atelier Oslo), or Barbara Wilkis (W Architecture and Landscape, NYC).

The workshop is open to interdisciplinary teams and individuals from various fields. Interested parties may include architects, landscape architects, engineers, sociologists, geographers, ecologists, those from marketing, economics, science, business, technology, and IT, anyone who is interested in architecture, urbanism, or simply in the city and life within it.

From among the applicants, a professional jury composed of Osamu Okamura (architect, reSITE Prague), Maria Aiolova (Terreform ONE, NYC), Alexandros Washburn (Director of Urban Planning, City of New York), David Černý (artist, Prague), and David Chisholm (CMC Architects, Prague) will select 25 participants who will collaboratively create a design for the mobile pavilion during the reSITE festival in Prague from June 21 to 23, 2013. The final form of the pavilion will be determined by an international jury made up of renowned personalities: architects, urban planners, and designers from home and abroad.

Detailed conditions for interested parties can be found at http://workshop.resite.cz/. The registration fee for the first phase of the workshop is 450 CZK. Applications must be submitted by May 30, 2013, exclusively in electronic form. Decisions about workshop participants will be made by June 3.
