Třebíč - The Masaryk Viewpoint in Třebíč has been designated a cultural monument. It was built in 1929 and 1930 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Czechoslovak Republic's president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Its ceremonial unveiling took place on October 28, 1930. This was stated in today’s press release by the spokesperson for the Telč office of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), Ilona Ampapová.
The building is regarded by heritage experts as a significant example of architecturally and urbanistically valuable small buildings in the landscape, reflecting the life of society in the 1920s and 1930s. The viewpoint is located on a rock above the Jihlava River at the eastern edge of the Na Hrádku park.
The simple reinforced concrete structure with a square floor plan, based on the principles of functionalism and modern classicism, was designed and built by the Třebíč builder Jaroslav Herzán. "The initiator of the idea was the Beautification Society, which is an important part of Třebíč's history and the initiator of many landscape projects in Třebíč's urbanism. The southern facade is adorned with a medallion featuring a relief portrait of Masaryk with the inscription T. G. MASARYK 1850–1937. Originally a bronze medallion with a diameter of one meter, it was replaced in 2012 with a replica made of synthetic resin," Ampapová stated.
In the Vysočina region, there are nearly 3000 immovable cultural monuments, including 16 national cultural monuments. The region also includes three urban and three village heritage reserves, 22 urban and five village heritage zones, and one landscape heritage zone.
