We cordially invite you to a guided architectural walk with art historian Martin Strakoš:
From Fifejdy to Kamenec or From Housing Estate to Housing Estate June 7, 2014, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Meeting at the Fifejdy I housing estate at the square by the clock tower of the commercial and social center between Jiřího Trnky and Generála Hrušky streets, Ostrava-Mariánské Hory. Organized by the Antiquariat and Club Fiducia as part of the Ostrava Museum Night.
This architectural walk will focus on the peripheries and housing estates. Both types of areas and constructions constitute a significant part of Ostrava, and we will walk through them from Mariánské Hory to the right bank of the Ostravice River in Slezská Ostrava. We will explore the individual phases of the Fifejdy housing estate, visit the Miniland of sculptor Kurt Gebauer, and stop by the new administrative complex Orchard. We will then overcome the transport barriers in the form of Místecká Street and the Frýdlant railway, around which the typical periphery and those characteristic "non-places" are located, the number of which is rapidly increasing and becoming the norm for contemporary human settlements. On the side of the center of Ostrava itself, we will stop at a residential complex that illustrates how the center of Ostrava might have been transformed, if only... We will then walk past the winding tower of the Jindřich Mine to the Jindřiška housing estate and conclude the walk through Komenského Sady at the beginning of the Kamenec housing estate in Slezská Ostrava.
