Brno - The Brno city council approved a project to enhance the area around the Brno Reservoir. Changes costing more than 20 million crowns are planned for all four locations: Sokolské swimming pool, Rakovecká bay, Rokle, and Kozí horka. New buildings with sanitary facilities will be constructed at the first two sites, and new recreational elements will be added in all areas. The city aims to increase the attractiveness of the water reservoir through this investment, said the mayor's deputy, Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD), to reporters today.

Work will begin in the coming weeks. Part of it will be completed within two months, but most will be finished by the middle of next year. "We want to complete everything before the start of the summer season," said Pavel Žára, spokesman for the Brno city hall. "After all the upgrades, the reservoir will be more comfortable for visitors. Half of the costs will be covered by subsidies from the European Union. Therefore, everything must be completed and settled by the end of next year," noted Pospíšil.
The Sokolské swimming pool in Kníničky on the left bank of the reservoir will have a new changing room and outdoor showers, which will connect to the existing public toilet building. The site will also get new recreational and play elements like tables for table tennis or a horizontal bar.
Public social facilities and changing rooms will also be built in Rakovecká bay, where play elements such as exercise machines and rope obstacles will also be included. Recreational and play elements will also be found at Kozí horka and Rokle. New benches and trash bins will also be added.
The reservoir has undergone significant changes in recent years. In the past, swimming was not possible due to an overabundance of cyanobacteria. However, after cleaning the reservoir, people began to return to the site. "Interest in the reservoir continues to grow. It is estimated that during the summer season, tens of thousands of people visit it for recreation. Total attendance may exceed 100,000," Žára informed. According to him, however, no one keeps statistics on the attendance of the reservoir.
