The folk building of the Zlín Region for the year 2024 is a wooden house in Návojná

Zlín - The Folk Building of the Zlín Region for the year 2024 is the log house with the identification number 4 in Návojná in the Zlín region, together with the neighboring house and the relocated barn. CTK was informed today by the spokesperson of the regional office, Soňa Ličková. The region has been granting this recognition since 2008 for exemplary restoration of folk architecture buildings.

"With the recognition of the Folk Building of the Year in the Zlín Region, we want to appreciate folk architecture buildings that their owners have restored using traditional techniques and materials, which are characterized by a high level of craftsmanship. This helps to preserve the beauty of folk architecture for future generations and breathe new life into these buildings," said regional councilor Zuzana Fišerová (Pirates).

The village of Návojná performed the reconstruction of the house with the identification number 4 in 2018 and 2019. Craftsmen replaced parts of the roof structure, laid a new shingle covering, replaced worn-out elements of the log walls, and created new ceilings. "In the interior, the restoration of the stove and tiled stoves, which are functional, is worth mentioning, as visitors particularly appreciate this during cultural events, such as bread baking," said the spokesperson. Last year, work related to the adjustment of the surroundings followed, as the neighboring house began to serve as operational facilities.

"The building was externally modified to correspond to the character of a village building in the past. The barn was relocated to the site and restored. The restored rural homestead serves various social events, including a pilgrimage mass at the chapel of the Holy Trinity, a communal pig slaughter, the raising and felling of the maypole, harvest costume celebrations, the beginning of the Saint Nicholas procession, and caroling by the Christmas tree, among others," the spokesperson stated. Guided tours explaining folk architecture and the history of Závrší are also available.

This year, the renovation of the wine cellar – press house in Veletiny in the Uherské Hradiště region was also nominated for the recognition of Folk Building of the Year in the Zlín Region. Last year, the award went to the rural house with the identification number 174 in Tupesy in the Uherské Hradiště region.
