Prague – Starting today, residents of the metropolis can familiarize themselves with the proposal for the Metropolitan Plan at Jungmann Square. At the same time, they can submit comments on it. The information container of the Institute of Planning and Development will gradually appear in 12 locations in the metropolis, stopping at each for two days. In addition, an information stand is also prepared, which will gradually visit seven shopping centers. This was announced by IPR spokesperson Marek Vácha. The plan will determine what can be built where and is expected to take effect from January 1, 2023. The current plan was approved in 1999.
Residents of Prague can comment on the proposed Metropolitan Plan from today until June 30. Comments and objections can be submitted electronically via the plan's website and Portál Pražana, as well as in person. They can also familiarize themselves with it until June 28 at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning at the Institute of Planning and Development in Emauzy.
The container will appear on the streets until June 28, when the deadline for submitting comments and suggestions will expire. In addition to the aforementioned Jungmann Square, it will also be at Anděl, in Chodov, and at Strašnická. The exact schedule and list of locations can be found on the plan's website.
IPR has also prepared a new stand, which will also serve to inform city residents. It will be located inside shopping centers. It will first appear in the Nový Smíchov shopping center, where it will be present from Thursday, May 12, to Saturday, May 14.
After addressing the comments, the proposal will be discussed with the public administration and finally reviewed by Prague representatives. It is not yet clear when this will happen. According to IPR's assumptions, it should come into effect in 2023.
People became acquainted with the first version of the proposal in 2018, when they could also submit comments, of which thousands were received. IPR subsequently addressed them and incorporated them as needed. At that time, ministries and agencies also raised objections.
The plan is one of the documents that determines construction in Prague. Compared to the current zoning plan, the metropolitan one addresses issues such as height regulation. It also considers not only the functional use of the area but also the character of the area and urban district, that is, how it looks. The plan focuses on several key areas, including climate change, housing, public spaces, and amenities.
In the past, there were disputes surrounding the new plan, which temporarily led to the departure of its main author, architect Roman Koucký. Ultimately, he returned to head the team preparing the plan. However, the preparation has been delayed. It was originally supposed to take effect from 2020, but the Chamber of Deputies extended the deadline by three years. The preparation of the plan began under Mayor Tomáš Hudeček (independent, then TOP 09).
