Liberec - The Liberec city council today approved a partial change to the zoning plan that will allow for the construction of a parking garage within the regional hospital complex. The parking lot is a prerequisite for the construction of a new urgent care pavilion costing 1.9 billion crowns. Without the parking garage, the hospital would not receive a building permit, said the mayor of Liberec, Jaroslav Zámečník (SLK), to ČTK today. According to him, the change in the zoning plan also addresses the connection of the hospital complex after its expansion to local roads.

The councilors approved the change at the request of the hospital in an expedited manner, as they want to start the construction of the new pavilion with the parking garage by the turn of this year and next year. The parking garage, which will accommodate approximately 250 cars, should partially solve the hospital's parking issues.

The new pavilion is expected to partially resolve the shortcomings of the Liberec hospital. These include fragmentation into 38 buildings, some of which are structurally inadequate. The hospital also lacks a centralized patient reception and laboratories in one location.

The specialized pavilion will have a basement and five above-ground floors, and it will be built in the place of the old internal medicine department in the lower part of the complex along Kristiánova street. It should be completed by 2022. The construction of the pavilion has been in preparation by the Liberec hospital for seven years. The new pavilion will include changing rooms for medical staff, central reception, laboratories, operating rooms, a cardiocenter, intensive care unit (ICU), and over 130 patient beds. In the future, there are plans to move the helicopter pad to the roof of the pavilion.
