Liberec - Liberec is once again looking for a buyer for the former eye sanatorium in Machnín. The municipality is asking for at least 20.863 million crowns for the dilapidated complex, which is also referred to as the chateau or Kleinert's villa. This price was set by the city based on an expert opinion, and interested parties can apply until November 15. This information was announced today by the spokeswoman for the municipality, Jana Kodymová. The city has been unsuccessfully offering the lands and properties of the former eye sanatorium for over two years.

"Two serious interested parties have shown interest, but no sale has yet occurred. If a buyer is not found by the end of the year, the city is considering using the complex as the new headquarters for the City Forests of Liberec,” said Kodymová.

The city is offering a complex of approximately 38,000 square meters, located along the road from Machnín towards Kryštofovo Údolí on Rynoltická and U Přádelny streets. Originally, it was an elegant residence set in a well-maintained landscape park with a view of the ruins of Hamrštejn Castle. Today, it is in a deplorable state and has been leaking for a long time.

The Machnín chateau was presumably built as a family residence in 1882 by factory owner Adolf Schwab, a politician and owner of a textile mill. After nationalization during the previous regime, it served as a sanatorium where children with eye defects were treated from all over the country. The city owned the complex until 1999 when it sold the chateau building along with the caretaker's house and the watchtower, keeping only the surrounding lands of the landscape park, approximately three hectares. A plan by several Liberec doctors who committed to building a modern sanatorium failed. Liberec regained ownership of all buildings in 2019 for 2.8 million crowns.
