Liberec – Liberec will continue this year with the repair and replacement of windows in the historic town hall building, which was completed 130 years ago this year. This will be the seventh phase, which began in 2017. So far, 116 out of 176 windows in the richly decorated building with four above-ground floors and 80 rooms have been renovated. According to the Deputy Mayor Šárka Prachařová, windows in the ground floor and first floor have been replaced so far, and this year will certainly not be the last phase.

Just like in previous years, this time the city will use a grant from the Ministry of Culture’s program, which is intended for urban heritage reserves, for the renovation of the windows. Liberec is expected to receive over a million crowns. How many windows this will cover is still unknown, according to the Deputy Mayor. "When we consider that it is a million crowns and we know how much standard windows cost to replace in an ordinary house, and these are many times larger windows, we will see how many of those windows will then be replaced," the Deputy Mayor told reporters. The previous six phases of repairs and window replacements cost more than ten million crowns.

The Liberec town hall, built between 1887 and 1893, is one of the city's most valuable monuments and resembles the Vienna town hall in appearance. It has windows of standard sizes, as well as several-meter tall windows with stained glass. Some windows cannot even be opened or do not close properly; they are twisted and do not seal.

The renovation of the windows is not the only repair associated with the historic town hall this year. A reconstruction of the granite staircase at the main entrance is also planned. The estimated cost of its repair is around four million crowns.
