Prague - The pedestrian and cyclist bridge between Holešovice and Štvanice Island in Prague will not be built. Calculations showed that in the event of a major flood, it would have to be three meters higher than originally anticipated and could not be barrier-free. The pedestrian connection between Holešovice and the western and eastern parts of the island should thus be established during the planned reconstruction of the Hlávka Bridge, said the mayor's assistant Pavel Klega (ODS) to journalists today.

The bridge from Bubenské nábřeží to Štvanice, which has been discussed for several years, was expected to cost around 100 million crowns. However, there is still an obligation to build a second bridge to the island from Karlín, Klega noted. According to earlier information, it is to be built by the investor of the River City complex.
The new connections of the Vltava banks to Štvanice are related to long-standing plans for the revitalization of the island. A private company is expected, according to a contract with the city, to enhance the entire island and build a center for sports and recreation on the site of the current winter stadium. Four years ago, a flood affected the plans, and now the fate of the Štvanice winter stadium, which was declared a cultural monument, also needs to be addressed.
In addition to the new building in the western part of the island, plans also include the creation of recreational meadows and various sports facilities in its eastern part.
