Lanškroun (Orlickoústecku) - The town of Lanškroun is demolishing the former production hall, which served as a venue for cultural purposes. A new building will be constructed in its place. At the same time, the town will renovate the adjacent Langer villa from the 19th century. Both will be used as a community center. This was stated today by Mayor Radim Vetchý.
The demolition work will be completed by the construction company at the end of September. In the meantime, the town is preparing a project. Construction of the new building could start in the spring, with completion scheduled for mid-2018 or shortly thereafter. "On Wednesday, the council is expected to approve the loan. The town is financially capable of it," said Vetchý. The municipal office plans to cover the entire project cost with a loan. It is currently estimated that it will amount to 130 million crowns excluding VAT.
The Langer villa from the second half of the 19th century and the former production hall, which served as a venue, were closed by the town last year due to their emergency condition. The municipal office is proceeding based on plans proposed by Atelier 90. The project documentation will be supplemented with a review by the conservationists. The villa is to retain its historical authenticity. The new building will have a triangular footprint. The project had its opponents, who expressed their criticism in a petition. They submitted two dissenting opinions to the antimonopoly office, claiming that the town acted improperly in the selection processes for the project and demolition, which was not confirmed. "The weapons are not rattling now. We will see," said Vetchý. Opponents wished that the town would halt the project and hold a new architectural competition. In the past, the town only contacted Atelier 90. The atelier was also the only one to apply for the project competition.
