Kroměříž - Kroměříž plans to complete the reconstruction of Hanácké náměstí in the area of the former Žižka barracks this year. The costs of transforming the former asphalt military platform and adjacent areas into a square with park arrangements, a parking lot, a fountain, a children's playground, and a small amphitheater amount to about 35 million crowns. The new Hanácké náměstí could serve the citizens of the city as early as May of this year, said city hall spokesperson Pavel Zrna to ČTK.
The reconstruction of Hanácké náměstí, which is expected to become the second center of the city, began last spring. New roads, including sewage and public lighting cables, have already been completed. The foundations for the fountain have also been laid, the paving of the sidewalks and parking spaces has been finished, public lighting poles have been partially installed, and some trees have already been planted according to the landscaping project.
"By the end of 2009, we invested more than 24 million, which is essentially the amount of the subsidy that was promised to us. The total budget for the project is about 35 million crowns," noted project manager Libuše Spáčilová. According to her, all project activities were successfully carried out last year in accordance with the construction timeline.
"As soon as the weather permits, we will start building the surface and technology of the fountain, the amphitheater, installing playground equipment, and furniture that includes not only benches and trash bins but also a climbing wall. We also need to complete the public lighting, asphalt surfaces, and final landscaping, particularly the planting of shrubs, some trees, and ensuring lawn sowing," Spáčilová commented.
Kroměříž acquired extensive property from the army at the beginning of 2005, primarily the areas of Rybalková and Žižková barracks. The city retained some parcels of land and buildings while selling the rest to private investors. The Žižková barracks area, including Hanácké náměstí, is expected to gradually become a city district with new streets, shops, and residential development; for example, a hypermarket was built in the Rybalková barracks area.
