Krnov (Bruntál Region) - The Museum of Organs and Textiles, the regional museum and other accompanying facilities will be established by Krnov in the former headquarters of the textile company Karnola, which the city will buy from the bankruptcy administrator of the company for 3.8 million crowns. The costs for the reconstruction of the buildings will amount to hundreds of millions of crowns, and therefore the councilors want to obtain state and European subsidies for the repairs, said the city spokeswoman Dita Círová today. "In addition, we will approach major investors who are already operating in the Czech Republic to collaborate on the optimal transformation of these areas. The goal is for the resulting reconstruction and revitalization of the spaces to benefit the city as a whole with the least burden on the budget," clarified the deputy mayor Bedřich Marek. According to the plans of the councilors, the museum should be attractive and lively to attract not only those interested in technology and history but also tourists and young people. "The weaving machines placed in the showroom are still functional, so experienced weavers should showcase their work on them, and visitors could also try their skills in this field," Círová said. The organ exhibition also offers practical use, as organ concerts could take place there, for example. The city is simultaneously addressing the use of the entire area of the bankrupt textile factory, collaborating with university students as well as designers and architects. The councilors have already obtained a state subsidy of 1.5 million crowns for project documentation, which addresses access roads, connection of the building to utilities, and environmental impact assessment. The Karnola complex is located right next to the city center; large textile operations developed on both banks of the Opava River at the beginning of the 20th century. The river is now lined with monumental facades of the main factory buildings, most of which are empty.
