KRNAP selects a supplier for exhibitions for its visitor center in Vrchlabí

Vrchlabí – The Administration of the Krkonoš National Park (KRNAP) is selecting a supplier for the exhibitions for its visitor center being built in the former monastery in Vrchlabí. The construction part costing more than 135 million crowns excluding VAT has already been completed. The entire renovation of the building is finished, and a new multifunctional entrance has been created. Radek Drahný, the spokesperson for the KRNAP Administration, said this today to ČTK. According to him, over 140 million crowns have been invested so far, including projects, not including tax.

The main visitor center of KRNAP will be named the Krkonoš Museum, and its opening is planned for the end of 2023. The monastery in Vrchlabí will house the Krkonoš Museum of the KRNAP Administration.

"The exhibitions are currently in the process of ongoing tenders for suppliers. Although there is a forecast on which the exhibition was designed, we do not want to anticipate the final price for their realization considering the current market situation. Building will involve a lot of painstaking work on the content, producing graphics, fine-tuning details to ensure the final effect corresponds to a modern exhibition," said Drahný.

The total costs, including the development of the exhibition, are estimated to exceed 200 million crowns. European subsidies are expected to cover over 80 percent of eligible costs.

The reconstruction of the former monastery also included a new entrance to the future exhibitions, which resembles a rock and will preserve the essence of the monastery building's structure. The architectural aspect of the monastery reconstruction was ensured by Roman Koucký and Šárka Malá from the company koucky-arch.cz. The architects designed a new layout, with the main entrance to the exhibitions oriented towards the town and connecting to the parking lot.

The renovated monastery with a new interactive exhibition will serve as a representative gateway to the Krkonoš. The new KRNAP visitor center will replace the popular exhibitions Stone and Life and Man and the Mountains. An exhibition will be created documenting the story of Krkonoš with regard to its unique nature and the coexistence of nature and man.
