Ostrava - PROJEKTSTUDIO is currently implementing the design of a new kindergarten in Krásné Pole, which was prepared in collaboration with the general designer Hutní projekt Ostrava. The children are expected to start using the kindergarten at the turn of spring and summer in 2013.

The new kindergarten with a simple square floor plan will have three separate classrooms, a dining room, and a central space for joint play. Each classroom will have a separate entrance to its own outdoor terrace, where children will have the opportunity to play in favorable weather. The cladding of the outdoor toy storages will be used as boards on which there will be space for their own creativity.

“The building is not painted in colors from the outside. This is intentional: If the building were to be vibrant with colors and images, the significance of children's drawings would be diminished. By placing drawing boards, we give children the opportunity to decorate the kindergarten in their own way, so that their own pictures do not get lost in a colorful environment. The kindergarten thus becomes a sort of background for children's creation,” said David Kotek, the author of the design and managing director of PROJEKTSTUDIO.

The building will be literally made for children. For the afternoon nap, there are tracks with curtains prepared on the ceiling, which will instantly turn the classroom into small rooms. The building will also be unique in that the windows will be placed at several different levels so that even small children can look outside from their own perspective. “When they settle down for their afternoon nap, they will see the sky through large windows, but when they play, they will see what is happening outside, on the street. Everything will be adapted to their needs,” added David Kotek. “They will be surprised by the floor. Under its interestingly decorated surface, some will imagine mountains, others tracks for cars or tree rings,” he added. The entire project was prepared in collaboration with the mayor and the educational leadership of the school and kindergarten in Ostrava - Krásné Pole.

Unlike the currently used building, the new structure will meet all strict hygiene and safety standards required for buildings intended for children. “Originally it was supposed to be a wooden structure, but in the end, due to fire safety standards, we had to choose a reinforced concrete structure. However, wood as a pleasant natural material has at least been retained as the outer cladding of the kindergarten,” the author of the design explained. From a distance, the building will appear wooden, but up close, observers will see colorful elements that are part of the internal structure and will enliven the kindergarten. The project also includes landscaping of the immediate surroundings of the building.

Hutní projekt Ostrava hired PROJEKTSTUDIO for the study and concept of the kindergarten in 2006. However, the original pavilion design of the kindergarten exceeded the budget possibilities. PROJEKTSTUDIO, together with Hutní projekt Ostrava, proposed to the mayor to rework the project in such a way that it would significantly reduce the construction costs. This was achieved in 2012, and the current project is 10 million cheaper than the previous one.
