Kolín - Kolín is undergoing gradual improvements, not only in the historic center but also in its wider surroundings. According to Deputy Mayor Michael Kašpar (STAN), important details matter, which he agrees upon with the city architect. It is the city architect David Mateásko who proposes changes to the public space. According to Mayor Vít Rakušan (STAN), he also focuses on the placement of bins and other furniture in the historic center of the city.

One significant investment project was the reconstruction of the area in front of the Church of the Holy Trinity. The town hall had a part of the wall removed that was in a state of disrepair, with the rest being repaired. The paved mosaic, which had been long disrupted by tree roots, was also repaired. Kolín paid almost 450,000 crowns for the repairs to the area in front of the church. "There will also be a change in the railing due to the direct intervention of Mr. Architect Mateásko. The classic red-and-white railing currently there will be replaced with chain-link railing with posts, to make it more uniform in the city center, and this detail will not remain unsatisfactory," said Rakušan.

The repair of the street Za Dvorem in the Štítary district has also been completed. The request for repair was first voiced by locals in 2012; until then, the street had no solid surface and was muddy, and there was no public lighting. "Now it is one of the prettiest streets in Kolín, it’s a well-executed completed investment," said the mayor. The city spent approximately four million crowns on the reconstruction.

In addition to larger construction modifications, the town hall is addressing details as well. "Mr. Architect has identified some places where waste bins are currently located, and according to him, they do not fit into that specific historic area," said Rakušan. The city will thus replace the selected bins and remove some, replacing them with new waste bins in other, more suitable locations.

Reconstruction is also awaiting Pražská Street. According to Rakušan, the project is nearing completion and should be ready by June. "Then we need to tender for a contractor, and in the autumn we can start; it will be completed next year," said Rakušan. The Kolín town hall plans to reconstruct surfaces, sidewalks, and public lighting on Pražská Street. The city also aims to improve infrastructure for cyclists.
