Prague - The reconstructed vaults in the riverside walls at Prague's embankment will open to the public for the first time in October. Prague has had around twenty vaults repaired, with the occupancy permit scheduled for the end of September and beginning of October. Jan Sulženko, the coordinator of the embankments from the city company Trade Centre Prague (TCP), stated this today. The city leadership began receiving the repaired vaults from the contractors today. The repair costs amount to more than 170 million CZK. Businesses like Bajkazyl and Tiskárna na vzduchu will utilize them, while the city is still searching for tenants for two of the vaults.
"The occupancy permit still needs to be completed, which should take place at the end of September or at the beginning of October. Right after that, we will hand over the vaults to the tenants, and we have prepared open house days for October 23 and 24, when the public will be able to see the vaults in operation," Sulženko said.
All vaults have new glass revolving doors. The glass has an elliptical shape, and the largest one measures about 5.4 meters at its widest point. The weight ranges between 2.1 and 2.5 tons. The glass is manufactured by the American company Reynolds, which has a branch in Thailand, from where the glass was transported to Prague via Hamburg. The price of one is around 700,000 crowns.
Most of the vaults on Rašínovo nábřeží are barrier-free. However, those that are the largest will require assistance for wheelchair users. This is due to their architectural design and heritage protection, which does not allow for reconstruction. The city must also build connection points on Rašínovo nábřeží, which means electrical and water connections, and then benches or trash cans.
The city also wants to address the large number of mooring boats. "We are having a discussion about how to set up the boat mooring system, especially on Rašínovo nábřeží, which is very busy in this regard. I think within half a year to a year, it will be clear, and we will have a specific solution," Sulženko said. TCP is also discussing operations on the embankments with residents and the leadership of Prague 2. The rules for organizing events have already been tightened, and, for example, only acoustic concerts can be held here starting from September 1 of this year.
