Kladno - In preparation for changes to the zoning plan, including the establishment of a commercial zone at Růžové pole, Kladno will conduct a public opinion survey. The results will be included in the city's decision-making materials. According to Mayor Milan Volf (Volba pro Kladno), the city will proceed with further discussions on the changes to the zoning plan based on the results. The number of residents participating in the survey is still being discussed, said Kladno City Hall spokesperson Lenka Růžková today. For the council members who will decide on the changes, the results of the survey are not legally binding.

Last week, a public discussion on the changes took place in Kladno, attended by more than a hundred residents. Among other things, they criticized the potential establishment of a commercial zone in the Růžové pole area. People are concerned about deterioration in the environment and increased traffic burden. An initiative called Save Růžové pole has been formed against the changes. The land, which belongs to a private investor, currently has untended greenery. The current zoning plan allows for the establishment of a sports facility on it.

Property owners and public representatives can submit objections to the changes in the zoning plan within seven days after the public discussion. The city must address these objections but is not required to accommodate them if properly justified.

The public opinion survey in Kladno, which has nearly 70,000 residents, is to be conducted by a reputable agency. "The opinion of the residents of Kladno is crucial for us, which is why we decided to ascertain it through this objective method and further proceed with the changes to the zoning plan based on the results," said the mayor. However, council members are not obligated to follow the survey results. Otherwise, this would be the case, for example, if a referendum were called that met all legal requirements.

The Kladno leadership also claims that the previous city administration prepared a project for a multipurpose hall with a capacity of up to 8,000 seats in the Růžové pole area. However, according to former mayor and current opposition council member Dan Jiránek (ODS), the city examined the possibility of building the hall in another location where a hobby market is currently being established, but ultimately decided to prepare the project for a site near the ice stadium, which is in the city center, thus completely different from Růžové pole. "The project was never designed for Růžové pole," Jiránek stated. He believes the city should conduct a study to determine whether there is a need for another commercial zone and compare the situation with other cities.
