Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary intends to invest about 150 million crowns in the renovation of buildings on Jan Palach waterfront, where a university is to be located. Most of the costs are likely to be covered by a state grant. The city is currently preparing a reconstruction project, said the mayor of the city, Petr Kulhánek (KOA), to ČTK. This year, the city agreed with the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University to establish a branch of the school in the city. Physiotherapy is expected to be taught here.
"We have succeeded with the project proposal for the construction of infrastructure for public higher education within the Restart program to support structurally disadvantaged regions, which includes the Karlovy Vary Region. This facility is thus eligible for funding for a complete reconstruction. The rough estimate is about 150 million crowns," he stated.
The city is therefore currently preparing a project for the renovation of a complex of three buildings. This alone will cost about 4.5 million. The actual reconstruction is to be carried out next year.
Charles University offered the possibility of studying in Karlovy Vary already this year. However, because the agreement was reached only several months after students submitted their applications for study, actual teaching directly in the spa town is expected to begin only in a year.
According to Kulhánek, the reconstruction of the buildings, where the university branch is to be located, should not interfere with the actual teaching. The complex is large enough that it is possible to separate the teaching from the construction work.
