Karlovy Vary - The Karlovy Vary Region has canceled the original tender for the reconstruction of the Karlovy Vary Emperor's Baths. After an examination in recent months, it became clear that there were mistakes in the tender. The region could announce a new tender shortly after the New Year, once it has a building permit for the construction, said the governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, Jana Mračková Vildumetzová (ANO), to ČTK.
"The tender had to be canceled because the association that announced it a few years ago did not proceed in accordance with the Public Procurement Act according to legal assessments by both the Karlovy Vary Region and external lawyers. The Karlovy Vary Region would be taking a huge risk if it continued with such a contract," said Mračková Vildumetzová. According to her, it would have to return a grant of 250 million crowns that it obtained from the Ministry of Culture.
The original tender was issued by the association of legal entities Emperor's Baths, of which the region and the city of Karlovy Vary were members. However, the region exited from it in 2016. The cancellation of the original tender should not delay the reconstruction itself. "Now it depends on how quickly we can manage to procure it. However, the reconstruction should start next year," the governor stated.
The reconstruction of the national cultural monument, without the construction of a concert hall, is expected to cost around 600 million crowns. The costs will be shared by the region, the state, and the city. The Emperor's Baths belong to the region. After the reconstruction, the Emperor's Baths should primarily serve cultural purposes, but spa services should also return there.
