Prague - The director of the National Library (NK) Vlastimil Ježek urged Prague Mayor Pavel Bém in a letter to fulfill the promise made two years ago and sell land in Letná to the library. Ježek also informed the Minister of Culture Václav Jehlička about his appeal in another letter. This was reported by Aktuálně.cz. In the letter addressed to Bém, Ježek points out the resolution of the Prague City Council from March 2006, in which the city committed to selling the Letná land for 30 million crowns to the National Library under certain conditions. The NK wanted to build its new building on this land. One of the conditions of the commitment was that Prague would first conclude a preliminary contract with the NK and, once the library submitted a building permit and proved financing for the construction, the city would definitively sell the land. The library was to submit the building permit by the end of this year, but due to delays, it will not be able to meet this deadline. "Given that more than 25 months have passed since the adoption of this unfulfilled resolution, I also ask for an extension of the deadline for submitting the valid building permit and proving the financing for the construction for the same period, until January 30, 2011," Ježek wrote to Bém. According to earlier statements by Ježek, there are no longer any obstacles preventing the city from selling the land. Prague was waiting for a response to the complaint by Deputy Minister of Culture František Mikeš to the antitrust office. The director of the office, Martin Pecina, replied to the deputy that the office would not deal with the complaint regarding the irregularities in the competition announced for the project of the new NK building. In his letter to Culture Minister Jehlička, Ježek stated that if the city decided to revoke its previous decisions, the NK would be entitled to demand reimbursement for all costs so far associated with the preparation of the construction on the Letná land. However, Ježek also mentioned in the letter that he did not want to get involved in disputes that would profit only lawyers.
