Jeseník - Visitors and residents of Jeseník will still be able to navigate the local streets with a new orientation system this year. Directional signs will be installed not only in the city streets but also throughout the microregion of Jesenicko. The main reason for acquiring the new orientation and information system, according to city officials, is the effort to increase tourist traffic in the area.

"All municipalities in the Jesenicko microregion will have a uniform information and orientation system. We obtained funding from the European Union under the Interreg IIIA program," said Jeseník Deputy Mayor Jan Chytil to ČTK today.
According to him, directional signs with street names, pointing to the hospital, bus station, and local court will be erected in the city of Jeseník by the end of this year. "In many smaller municipalities, this is already done. We have lagged a bit. However, we wanted to secure a grant for this and have a uniform system in the microregion," stated the deputy mayor. He added that the system in Jeseník, including four welcome signs on the access roads, will cost around 2.5 million crowns.
The Jesenicko microregion, where visitors will be able to navigate with similar directional signs as in Jeseník, includes not only this city but also Bělá pod Pradědem, Česká Ves, Lipová Lázně, and Ostružná. The microregion has a total population of 21,500, which is about half of the total population of the entire district.
The leadership of the Olomouc city hall has also started marking streets or monuments. The costs for building the information system here will climb to 5.5 million crowns. The project includes a navigation network to monuments, tourist destinations, and hotels in the city. The initiative, which is expected to be realized in the autumn of this year, is meant to follow a similar project from the Olomouc region, which will attract tourists to the monuments throughout the region.
