Hradec Králové - Hradec Králové wants the rapid completion of the extensive renovation of October 28 Square in the city center. According to the original schedule, the work was supposed to be finished by the end of November, yet construction workers are still on-site. This was stated today by Hradec's deputy mayor, Jindřich Vedlich, to reporters. Petr Smola, the managing director of the construction company Sovis, told ČTK today that the work will be completed as soon as possible.
"The city urges the construction company Sovis to finish the construction as soon as possible," Vedlich said. The city hall announced last week that the construction work should be completed during December. Vedlich today did not want to specify a particular completion date. The city, according to the deputy, will decide on potential penalties for the company only after the handover of the construction.
According to Vedlich, one of the reasons for the delay is the repairs of the underground garages of Česká pojišťovna, which are located beneath part of the square. Another complication was the poor condition of the sewer system on S.K. Neumann Street. Vedlich pointed out today that another complication could be the weather. "Some tasks cannot be performed in freezing conditions," Vedlich said.
The managing director of the construction company, Smola, confirmed that the company is still working on the repairs. "The deadline adjustment was caused by works that emerged only during the construction, namely the insurance garages and additional work," Smola explained. He added that under the current weather conditions, no completion date can be guaranteed. "In freezing temperatures, it is not possible to carry out tasks such as concrete pouring," Smola said.
The reconstruction of the square and the adjacent streets Dukelská and S.K. Neumann for 93 million crowns began last summer and has been plagued by problems from the start. For example, the road repairs were supposed to be completed by the end of last December, but city public transport buses only returned in May of this year. The city justified the delay by problems with the relocation of old networks. The slow progress of repairs was criticized by people and some merchants at that time.
