Horská Kvilda (Klatovy Region) - The Šumava village of Horská Kvilda, where the municipal office with two apartments burned down on April 10, wants to open a polling station in the repaired building by the end of May. Local residents have already cleared the house and demolished the remnants of the roof and the first floor, which the structural engineer ordered to be removed. The insurance company has already offered the municipality advance payments and will cover all damages, which are estimated to be between three and five million crowns. This was reported by the mayor of the municipality, Jan Janoušek. "The insurance company should cover everything, including the insurance for the lower part, which is soaked. They immediately offered us advance payments. We will probably have some co-payment," he added. The village, which has 73 permanent residents, wants to start repairs within a month at the latest. In Šumava, it is necessary to build quickly, the mayor added. The municipality built the building nine years ago for 11 million crowns. The fire broke out on the floor of the building, where there were two apartments, one of which was municipal and the other rented by its employee from the Šumava National Park. The park and the municipality have secured alternative housing for the families. According to firefighters' estimates, the damage was three million crowns, but the municipality believes it will be more. "The cause and extent of the damage will be known in about a month, when it will be evaluated by experts in the fields of chemistry and electricity," said regional fire service spokesperson Alena Marešová. The municipality is currently not using the ground floor either, as it is soaked and has interrupted electrical wiring. "We have moved the municipal office to our home. However, we expect to operationalize the polling station there," said Janoušek. He was unable to estimate when everything would be finished. We haven't even agreed on prices with construction firms yet, he added. Local people, in cooperation with a company, have already demolished the burned parts of the house. "The floor has already been demolished down to the ceilings; over Saturday and Sunday, we had a work party here. People who have a connection to the municipality come. Seven came on Saturday, six on Sunday, and the Tuesday and Wednesday before last, we were clearing the building," added Janoušek.
