Bohumín - The Railway Administration (SŽ) will begin the reconstruction of the listed dispatch building at the train station in Bohumín in the Karviná region in April. Among other things, they will replace windows and doors, restore the façade including damaged decorative elements, and modify the internal layout of the building. The anticipated investment costs are 62.5 million crowns. SŽ spokesperson Nela Friebová announced this today in a press release.

The reconstruction aims to revitalize the station spaces, increase comfort for passengers, and reduce the energy demands of the building. "The overall architectural appearance of the dispatch building will not change; the goal is to maintain as much of its original character and material appearance from the time of the reconstruction in 1904," Friebová stated.

The building will also have its heating system completely renovated and the roof above the post office replaced. The dispatch building will receive new furniture and new public restrooms.

"The reconstruction is planned in phases while partially maintaining operations; alternative waiting spaces and public toilets will be provided for passengers, and ticket sales will remain available," Friebová added.

The reconstruction will build upon smaller repairs from previous years, during which the entrance doors and roof were replaced. The construction contractor is the company PORR. The work is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
