Frýdek-Místek - The city of Frýdek-Místek would like to transform the Jižní svahy park beneath the local castle in the future. It has now removed a damaged footbridge that had not been serving its purpose for a long time and had, on the contrary, become a refuge for drug addicts. Jana Musálková Jeckelová, the city hall spokesperson, said this to ČTK.

"The footbridge under Hasičská street connecting two steep hills had long been devastated by people, which is why it had to be closed in 2019 for safety reasons. It then served as a refuge for drug addicts. The city hall has now complied with constant complaints from citizens and proceeded to the permanent removal of the footbridge," the spokesperson stated. The city's management plans further enhancement of the area.

"The demolition is complemented by minor construction work and landscaping, including the installation of barriers against falling into the terrain depression. A path is now being opened for further adjustments and beautification of the park, which we are planning with the city's chief architect," stated Deputy Mayor Jiří Kajzar (Naše Město F-M).

The city expects that during further adjustments new sidewalks will be created, connecting to the park paths and leading pedestrians to the skate park below the slope or to a future underpass under the tracks with an exit at Faunapark.

The route is also set to include the rediscovered stone steps above the stadium. "As soon as the city resolves the issue with the illegal garage construction above the steps, the staircase will be included in the network of sidewalks and paths in the Jižní svahy park. The walking route between Frýdek and Místek will thus be significantly shortened," said Musálková Jeckelová. The steps should facilitate the connection between Frýdek and Místek. Most of the current routes between these parts run along busy roads or directly across the railway tracks.

The old steps are located between the houses just below the town hall at Těšínská street, and in the past, people walked through them right by the Jižní svahy. The city wants to utilize the steps as a new link that would allow people to reach the railway tracks.
